About me, Projects

Project: RadRacer

This light hearted multi-player racing game emerged from AS Computing lessions as a top-down 2D racing game written in pascal. The vehicle was a rectangle and the track was made up of lines. Gradually it increased in detail and was ported to delphi where the graphics were changed to use OpenGL.

Along with the 3d graphics came a track editor, network play with network chat, and in-game upgrades. The upgrades included:

  • New cars with different properties and special features including:
    • Cloaking device - This car can go invisible, but is revealed by one of the weapons.
    • Hover car - This car can hover about 10 feet off the ground where its rear wheels turn into thrusters. This allows it to race over other vehicles and fly over walls.
  • Weapons to blast away other cars.
  • A variety of drops which are limited in ammunition:
    • Oil slick - useful for making a close follower lose control on a bend.
    • Land mines - amazingly fun to use, these bombs explode after a short time throwing close vehicles away and triggering nearby land mines creating a chain reaction.
